I have the great privildge of cuddling babies in the NICU at UC Health three hours a week. It’s one of my volunteer gigs. Check out this Channel 4 report about it by clicking here.
While my business is growing and my second book is being written, it is providing some structure to my life and putting good karma in my karmic bank. As a life coach, I witness peoples’ struggles and support their healing. This is exactly what I am doing for these babies.
They are so precious. In order for me to hold a baby, they have to be pretty hearty, nearly ready to go home. Most are around 4-5 pounds and have oxygen and feeding tubes, but are stable and needing extra love. I have to be well sterilized, with gloves and hospital blanket between me and the wee babe.
The best case scenario is that the parents are there with the kids. Sadly, not all parents can be. They may have other kids at home or other extenuating circumstances that make if difficult to be with the baby constantly in the NICU. It is my great fortune to hold these little beings, worthy of love and attention. Welcome to the world, my little friends.
