Creating An Intention Tree

Creating An Intention Tree

Goal setting is a very important part of living a full, happy and impactful life. Traditionally, we do this around January 1st each year. Recently, people have utilized vision boards to help define the future they want for themselves. Because my ideas for the future were based on written words rather than visual images that might be fitting a vision board, I decided to create an intention tree using sculpey clay and a necklace stand, on which, I wrote the words that represented the future of my dreams.

If you want to make an Intention Tree, here’s what you will need:

  1. A tree jewelry stand. I got mine from Urban Outfitters
  2. Sculpey Clay, which you can find at any hobby or art store, or by clicking here
  3. Simple wire to create the hangers
  4. Letter stamps and permanent ink from a craft or stamp supply store
  5. Oven for baking the clay

Directions:

Soften the Sculpey Clay in your hands and roll it out flat using a rolling pin.

Cut several 3″ x 3.5″ squares out of the clay.

Using letter stamps and ink, press in whatever word helps define the part of your life you are interested in setting an intention for, like home, career, friends, wealth/means, health, etc. Flip the shape over and stamp in your intentions on the other side.

Make sure all your phrases are positive and in the present tense, as though they already are. Instead of saying, “Lose weight,” say something like, “I am a healthy, strong 135-pound women.” rather than saying, “Get out of debt,” say, “I am financially free to travel where ever I want.” These are just a couple of examples of proper word use.

Once the stamping is complete, use a toothpick to poke holes in the top corners for the wires to be inserted after baking.

Place the shapes on a cookie sheet and bake as directed on the Sculpey Clay package. If your squares turn brown, like many of mine did because I baked them too long, grab a marker or paint and color them. Might not be perfect but that is not what we are going for. Fun and colorful is more interesting.

Once the intention plaques are cool, use the simple wire to create hangers and place them on your tree. This is much more effective if you read these intentions often, so place the tree where you will see it daily.

Creating an intention tree is even more fun when you do it with a friend. Just make sure you set your intentions without distraction so that they are authentic and what YOU truly want.
